NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday released a commemorative coin worth Rs 100 in memory of iconic BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Senior BJP leaders, including Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, BJP Chief Amit Shah, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Vajpayee’s contemporary LK Advani were also present at the event to release a coin in the memory of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The former prime minister died at the AIIMS in the national capital in August at the age of 93 following prolonged illness. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was “a stalwart loved and respected across all sections of society,” PM Modi said at the function. Vajpayee “never compromised ” on the BJP’s ideology and was not hungry for power, Modi said.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister of the country for 13 days in 1996, 13 months in 1998 and for almost six years from 1999.
